Default How great I feel.

I am new to Guild Wars, heck I have not even bought it yet (in two weeks). I have played many MMO's and each time I quit because of the Community, but now I have seen this forum and I am amazed of how many people there are. And how nice you guys are, so thank you! (btw if any of you have a trial key, can you please give it to me? I really want to test game)

This forum is a very, very bad representation of the average Guild Wars player.

I agree, we are all a bunch of Jaded GW and ex-GW players that spend our time QQ over what we dont like.

Most of the gw population is pretty nice, although like the real world stupidity abounds.

What would you guys think of the idea of us equipping this brand new player's characters? We're more than likely to have loads of greens and golds we can't sell to a saturated market, so why not do a good deed and donate them to a new player?

Let's do something nice for a change.

Welcome to GW (soon). Here are some basic tips to get you started:

1. Don't drop any of your items on the ground in explorable areas for other people to check out. They are scammers. You never have to drop anything for other people... EVER.

2. When selling, don't settle for the immediate lowball prices on items that people will PM you with. Be sure to mouse over all of the items in the trade window to make sure the deal is going exactly according to plan. (This is especially recommended for delayed trade submits and/or 'changed' trade configurations. These are methods often performed by ripoff artists to get you to lose patience and hit 'accept' without manually confirming.)

3. Pick up and ID everything: Whites, Blues, Purples, Golds. The extra cash you make is more than worth the cost of the ID kits themselves.

4. Research and make sure one of your first characters is a 'farming' class. Trust me - this will help with funding down the road for all of your characters (ie. having access to lots of farm spots ASAP for quick cash/items whenever you're in need). In the event you don't like farming, become good friends with running instead. It's probably an even better moneymaker than farming is overall.

5. Don't waste time asking what secondary profession you need to choose when you are first given the choice. By the time you will actually need to make significant use of the secondary profession, you will have unlocked them all. (Prophecies may be the exception here, depending upon how much you plan to take in before reaching the secondaries.)

6. GuildWiki is your friend. My friend too.

7. Just because the game is named Guild Wars, that doesn't mean you absolutely need to join a guild. It's a good way to meet people and make in-game friends though. Don't immediately sign on to join the first five-and-dimer guild who sends you an invite or you see spamming in town for new members. Wait for one that feels right for you. Whether that entails playing a bit with some of the members beforehand or asking lots of questions up front, you'll be better off for it in the long run. Don't join a guild just to ignore actually being in it. Nobody appreciates the 'who is that?' people on their guild roster.

8. Generally, it's more fun to play with people who use voice chat instead of those who just type everything out. If you lack a microphone, invest in one ASAP. If you lack a microphone, still don't be shy and hop on your (future) guild's ventrilo server anyways. Whatever you do, don't use the 'I broke my mic a couple of days ago/just recently...' excuse. Everyone's heard it. It's the new 'dog-eating homework'.

9. Being new, you will never know the horrors of waiting years for Leah Stone. It wasn't a wonderful time, but she's better now.

Every game has its share of morons and jerks. Guild Wars is no exception. The effect of greed on the playerbase runs as rampant here as it does in (probably) every other MMO. There are certainly plenty of people in town who are willing to help but just as many who are not ashamed to rip you off or otherwise take advantage of you.

Guild Wars is a great game. I've been playing for over 3 years now. Hopefully you like it as much as I do.

While I agree with the general idea of this rule, I must point out an obvious exception. Ergo:

The only time you should drop something is if you're a male warrior standing behind a female ele. This situation requires you to drop your pants and start dancing. Failure to follow this rule can result in a temporary ban.

Sweet baby Jesus!
You don't need to farm.
You can just play the game and you should have enough gold to buy the things you need.
Keep in mind though that things you need and want aren't always the same things.

There is still however a good sense of humour around here.

The game still has much to offer the new player it must have something still going for it based just on the numbers who hang around talking about it.

Visit the forums of other games over 3 years old and they are mostly sad deserted places.

Bunch of good ideas and I generally agree.
If all new players could read this there will be less nubs to farm in Spamadan, for sure xD

Oh and hellhiem, welcome.
One more suggestion from my side: Find out where the Farming subforum is and dont spend too much time in Riverside

If you think this is a good community... boy, I can't even pretend to imagine where you've been (semi-seriously).

Welcome to Guild Wars though. Despite all of the complaining that tends to happen there are still plenty of people who play the game and love it. It's a fantastic world, especially your first time around on all of the professions.
